Overview: Cardinal tetra is one of the most popular tropical fish out there. They have a striking red and blue colour which, if kept in dark water aquarium really pops out. In the wild they live in blackwater rivers where they are mostly predatory. They will feed on tiny animals hiding in the leaves, larvae of flies and other insects. They are a shoaling, peaceful community fish. Best keep in larger numbers, or at least 6. They will do well and sometimes shoal with other tetras, such as Neon tetra or Ember tetra. They are often wrongly called ‘neons’ as they are very similar in size and colour.
